Bhubaneswar: The Union Minister of Shipping, Road Transport and Highways, Thiru T.R. Baalu has approved a sum of Rs. 916.62 lakh for road improvement works in the state of Orissa, according to a Press Information Bureau press release.
An amount of Rs. 671.59 lakh has been approved for Improvement of Riding Quality (IRQP) from km. 62/0 to 72/0 and 85/0 to 87/0 (Sambalpur-Nagpur Section) and an amount of Rs. 245.03 lakh has been approved for road improvement works under IRQP for various stretches of NH-6 in the State.
This road is considered to be the life line for the traffic commuting between Kolkata and Mumbai and is a link for commercial activities between northern coastal and western parts in the state of Orissa. These stretches of the road were badly affected due to heavy rains, plying of heavy vehicles and the stretch developed cracks and pot-holes resulting in loss of the riding quality. Hence, funds have been sanctioned to improve these stretches, PIB release said.
